Who we build for

Engineering organizations that need to work across CAD systems

Cross-CAD collaboration isn't an edge case. Complex products bring together manufacturers, suppliers, engineering partners, customers, and distributed teams — often with each organization using the CAD environment that best fits its own needs. Sembyl is being built for the engineers and organizations working across those boundaries.

Manufacturers

Large manufacturers rarely operate in a single, perfectly uniform CAD environment. Different product groups, divisions, acquired companies, and legacy programs may use different systems. External suppliers and engineering partners add still more variation.

That creates a recurring challenge: how do you collaborate around the same engineering design when the people contributing to it aren't all working in the same environment?

Sembyl aims to make those boundaries less significant — allowing manufacturers to collaborate more effectively without first requiring everyone involved to standardize on the same CAD platform.

Suppliers

Suppliers frequently have little control over which CAD system their customers use. One customer may provide designs from one platform while another expects deliverables from another. The supplier still needs to understand the design, contribute engineering work, incorporate changes, and return useful information.

File conversion can help move geometry between those environments, but it doesn't necessarily preserve everything needed to continue engineering the design intelligently.

Sembyl is being built for suppliers that need to participate deeply in their customers' engineering processes without maintaining identical authoring environments for every customer.

Engineering partners

Contract engineering firms, design consultancies, and product-development partners often work directly with customer engineering teams. Their value comes from contributing engineering expertise — not from using a particular software package.

Yet differences between CAD environments can create additional work around translation, model reconstruction, validation, revision management, and coordination.

Sembyl's vision is to make the software boundary less important so engineering partners can focus more of their effort on the design itself.

Distributed engineering organizations

Even within a single company, engineering software isn't always uniform. Different locations may have different histories. Business units may select tools independently. Acquisitions introduce established engineering environments. Older product lines may remain tied to systems different from those used for new development.

Standardization can reduce some of that complexity, but replacing years of engineering processes, automation, expertise, and product information simply to achieve software uniformity can be costly and disruptive.

Sembyl is being built for organizations that need their engineering teams to collaborate even when their software environments remain different.

Engineering ecosystems, not isolated users

Ultimately, the cross-CAD problem exists because engineering is collaborative. A product can pass among an OEM, component suppliers, contract engineers, manufacturing partners, customers, and service organizations throughout its lifecycle.

Each participant may have legitimate reasons for using different engineering software. We don't believe effective collaboration should require every participant in that ecosystem to use the same CAD system.

Let the tools remain different while enabling the engineering design — and the intelligence behind it — to connect the people working on it.
